Job Location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI‐ERIC in Graz, Austria and/or Brussels, Belgium
Job Purpose: The Head of Public Affairs will drive BBMRI-ERIC’s Public Affairs and Stakeholder engagement strategy, extend the reach of our reputation, and increase the visibility and stakeholder’s trust of BBMRI-ERIC.
Duration: full-time, 40h/week

BBMRI-ERIC is an European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. We bring together all the main players from the biobanking field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical research. To that end, we offer quality management services, support with ethical, legal and societal issues, and a number of online tools and software solutions. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities of the Role
The Head of Public Affairs will be responsible for engaging with all stakeholder groups related to BBMRI‐ERIC. This includes political decision makers at the European Commission and beyond the EU, at BBMRI’s member states and observers as well as funding agencies. He/she will be closely involved in the ERIC Forum (https://www.eric-forum.eu/) and EU-AMRI (Alliance of Medical Research Infrastructures) thereby supporting to shape an efficient and sustainable European Research Infrastructure ecosystem. Furthermore, the Head of Public Affairs will be organizing the Stakeholder Forum in close interaction with the Director General and the Chair of the Stakeholder Forum. The Stakeholder Forum includes, among others, representatives of patient advocacy groups, scientific societies and industry, which are involved and/or affected by biobanking activities. It is set up to allow for a platform of exchange as well as a participatory governance to include stakeholder concerns into the activities of BBMRI-ERIC through a transparent engagement process. Organizing wider interactions with citizens and various publics will be a further key responsibility. Lastly, liaising on stakeholder issues with BBMRI‐ERIC bodies as appropriate include to ensure required documentation and communication. Where necessary, he/she supports networking, the development of requests for proposals for external services, the design of project documentation; public relations and dissemination activities. The Head of Public Affairs has an advocacy role within and outside of BBMRI-ERIC.
Requirements of the Role
The Head of Public Affairs is expected to have a high-level experience in liaising with various stakeholders from multiple fields and has to be comfortable to engage in the scientific context in which BBMRI-ERIC operates and, in particular, understands and empathizes with the cause of patient advocacy. Previous experience in stakeholder engagement and science communication is considered an advantage, as well as in-depth knowledge in one of the scientific fields that BBMRI-ERIC represents, especially the life sciences. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to effectively liaise with colleagues and stakeholders on all levels in a distributed, international, interdisciplinary environment and the ability to undertake/deliver the required tasks without losing a sense of humor as well as clarity in oral and written communication are essential requirements. As English is the common working language of BBMRI‐ERIC applicants must be fluent in English. A fluency in other languages is considered an advantage.
In order to provide effective support, the jobholder will need to stay abreast of the development of BBMRI-ERIC, as well as related organizations and initiatives and may from time to time have to attend meetings outside normal working hours and undertake international travel. The role‐holder is also required to stay abreast of key scientific developments within the scope of BBMRI-ERIC, therefore we seek for applicants knowledgeable in a field relevant for BBMRI-ERIC (scientific degree or other qualifications).

The Head of Public Affairs will be directly employed by BBMRI‐ERIC at its Central Executive Management Office in Graz, Austria.
What we offer
According to European/international standards for similar role and responsibilities and requirements of this function, 65,000€ as minimum annual gross salary; final salary dependent on terms of qualifications and experience.
