Job title: Finance Officer (f/m/d)

Job location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI-ERIC in Graz, Austria

Job purpose: As member of the Finance & Project Management team, you will support colleagues and stakeholders with your financial and administrative services and manage day-to-day office operations.

Contract: Since BBMRI-ERIC places a high priority on work-life balance / blending, it is also possible to sign a permanent contract with less than 40 hours per week.

BBMRI-ERIC is a European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. As one of the largest European Research Infrastructures in Life Science with 23 Member States plus IARC/WHO, we bring together all the main players from the biobanking field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical research. To that end, we offer quality management services, support with ethical, legal and societal issues, a number of online tools and software solutions and Biobanking Development. Ultimately, our goal is to make new treatments possible and enable precision medicine to the fullest.

What makes the job special?

Key Responsibilities and Requirements:

  • Dedicated handling of invoices, administrative tasks related to finance and project management and maintaining accurate records of daily transactions.
  • Monitoring and reconciling bank accounts, Credit Card statements, monthly AirPlus reports (flight tickets), cash book & VAT exemptions is part of your day-to-day responsibilities
  • Assisting in the preparation of budgets, status reports and forecasts, monthly payroll and the financial management of EU-funded projects are elements of your everyday endeavours
  • Your support in the assessment of resource planning is considered an additional advantage
  • With your hands on mentality the annual financial audit process is carried out more than smoothly
  • Developing and implementing financial procedures and control systems rounds out the portfolio of this vacancy and is one of your key drivers


In this role your required qualifications and skills are:

  • HAK (Matura), HAS, HBLA, apprenticeship, college degree in business administration, management, finance or equivalent
  • Solid understanding of financial processes and accounting principles
  • Career changers welcome
  • The ability to liaise with colleagues and stakeholders on many levels in a distributed, international, interdisciplinary environment
  • Strong analytical skills & detail oriented
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel (VLookup, Pivot Table)
  • Professional fluency in English, as English is the official working language of BBMRI-ERIC

Bonus qualification and skills: 

  • Bachelor degree in business administration, management, finance or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a financial role and or project financial management
  • Knowledge of the H2020/ Horizon Europe Funding Programmes


Employment terms and conditions

As we aim to provide a diverse work environment, the work can be performed at the headquarters in Graz (according to COVID-19 protocols) with occasional home office options.

The employment follows the Austrian employment law.


What we offer

According to European/international standards for similar roles and responsibilities and requirements of this function: €33,600.00 as minimum annual gross salary (based on 40 hours/week); final salary dependent on terms of qualifications and experience.
